The Difference Between Topsoil vs. Compost

We’ll help you decide between topsoil and compost for your lawn and garden. You may even need both! Topsoil is the top layer of any soil above the bedrock and is the most nutrient-rich layer of naturally occurring soil. Topsoil contains organic matter but not as much as your plants will need to grow to their full potential. The higher the percentage of compost in topsoil, the better the topsoil is for growing great gardens.

Topdressing Lawns with Soil3 Compost

Using Soil³ humus compost to topdress your lawn adds the organic matter that offers beneficial microorganisms and much-needed nutrients to your turf. Aerating before topdressing helps these nutrients reach the root zone and strengthen the root system. Spread Soil³ using a shovel or compost spreader to 1/4 to 1/2 thick. Not sure how much soil you need for your project? Use our easy compost calculator.

Soil³ Compost Mix

Add  Soil³  to the soil that is already in your yard to create the ideal soil compost mix for your garden. Combining Soil³ compost with your current dirt creates a soil compost mix with improved soil structure, water retention, and nutrition. Soil³ is OMRI listed, so you can be certain that you are practicing true organic gardening, starting with your new natural soil mix.

Vegetable Garden Organic Compost

Veggie Mix from Soil³ is your best option when it comes to choosing a vegetable garden compost. Selective about the food you eat? Then you must be selective about the soil you use to grow vegetables in your garden. Whether you have an organic garden, a raised bed garden, a square foot garden, or a traditional row vegetable garden, you know that soil quality is critical to successful gardening.

Top Dressing for Lawns with Compost

Topdress lawns with a thin layer of Soil3 humus compost to renovate and improve an existing residential or commercial lawn or sports field turfgrass. With this layer of Soil3 compost, we are addressing the problems of thinning or unhealthy sod and/or providing the first application of fertilizer for the year.
